About
The Mikado is a comic opera set in Japan, created by the Victorian duo Gilbert and Sullivan. The story follows Nanki-Poo, the son of the Mikado (the Emperor), who is in love with Yum-Yum, despite her being engaged to Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner of Titipu. When the Mikado demands a beheading, Nanki-Poo agrees to be executed, but only if he can marry Yum-Yum for a month first. The Mikado arrives, believing his son to have been beheaded, and states the only way Nanki-Poo can come back to life is if Katisha marries someone else – Ko-Ko obliges. Nanki-Poo and Yum-Yum then appear as husband and wife, and everyone is happy! Running Time: Approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes including an interval.
