Daniel in the Lions' Den

Daniel in the Lions' Den stages the story of a young man carried off into an empire that expects him to abandon what he believes, and who rises inside its government anyway. His refusal to stop praying becomes a political problem, and the punishment drafted for it is a pit with animals already in it.

The court is full of officials who resent an outsider outranking them, and they engineer a law he cannot obey without lying. The king who signs it likes him and cannot undo it. What follows is a night in the pit and a morning the story treats as vindication. It is staged as a family adventure, with original songs, large-scale scenery and effects doing a great deal of the work.

A companion piece opens the evening, telling the story of a young queen who risks her position to speak up for her people. Both are pitched squarely at family audiences, with the emphasis on spectacle and directness rather than subtlety. It suits groups and parents looking for something children can follow without effort that adults will not resent sitting through.
