About
The Living Tombstone is an electronic rock project that grew out of the internet rather than the venue circuit. It started as one person making music alone and posting it, and became a duo built around songs, a singing voice and a strong visual identity.
The music is pop-shaped electronic rock: big, sung choruses over production that borrows freely from dance music, with chopped synth leads, drum and bass breaks, dubstep weight and the occasional swing rhythm sitting under guitars and live-sounding drums. The writing is about video games, online subcultures and the strange emotional lives people build inside them, and it takes that material seriously rather than playing it for a joke.
It began as a solo project making music for online communities, and the songs travelled the way internet music does, shared and quoted and animated and rebuilt by other people until they were far larger than the project that made them. A vocalist joined and it became a duo, and the studio albums Zero One and Rust followed alongside music written for games.
The live show is performed rather than mixed. The vocals are sung, the arrangements are played out at full size, and the character the project has always had in its artwork is carried onto the stage rather than left behind it. Audiences tend to arrive knowing the material closely, and the show is built on that.
This is for people who found their favourite songs through a screen and want to hear them in a room with everyone else who did. It is electronic music with the emotional directness of a rock record, and it works loud.
