The play is a fictionalized behind-the-scenes account of the making of the classic 1975 movie "Jaws," directed by Steven Spielberg. Set on the island of Martha's Vineyard during the summer of 1974, the play follows the interactions and conflicts between the film's three lead actors - Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, and Richard Dreyfuss - as they spend their days filming on a cramped boat and dealing with the unpredictable mechanical shark used for the film's iconic scenes. "The Shark Is Broken" offers a humorous and revealing look at the making of one of the most famous films in Hollywood history, exploring the personalities and egos of the actors involved, as well as the technical difficulties and setbacks faced by the film crew during the arduous shoot. The play premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019 and has since been performed in various theaters in the UK and the US. It has received critical acclaim for its witty script, strong performances, and entertaining portrayal of the making of a cinematic classic.
