Sueco is a rapper turned rock songwriter whose music sits across both without settling into either. The early work paired loose, conversational rapping with hooks built for repeat listening, while the later records pull in pop punk guitars, post-hardcore weight and a plainly sung vocal, sometimes inside the same song. Production varies from track to track rather than album to album, which gives the catalogue its restless quality, and the writing keeps returning to wanting someone, misreading someone and the mess that follows. He first drew an audience online under the name Sueco the Child, then released the major-label album It Was Fun While It Lasted before going independent for Attempted Lover, a deliberately genre-scrambling record made with a rotating cast of producers. Reviewers have described him as part rapper, part pop-punk singer and part crooner, and that album bears it out, moving from near-acoustic passages to full post-hardcore across a handful of tracks. The audience for it is anyone who never saw the line between rap and guitar music as fixed.
