Die Fledermaus

Die Fledermaus is a comic operetta by Johann Strauss II about flirtation, mistaken identities, and petty revenge that play out at a decadent New Year’s Eve masquerade ball in 19th‑century Vienna. Dr. Falke tricks his friend Eisenstein into attending Prince Orlofsky’s ball, where Eisenstein unknowingly flirts with his own wife Rosalinde in disguise, their maid Adele pretends to be an actress, and all the chaos is ultimately laughed off—“blamed on the champagne”—to a score full of waltzes, polkas, and the famous Czardas for Rosalinde.
