Elijah - Prophet of Fire

Elijah: Prophet of Fire follows a prophet who walks into a royal court to announce that the rain will stop at his word. Ahab and Jezebel have made the worship of other gods the law of the land, and the man who defies them has no army, no title and nowhere safe to sleep.

The story traces Elijah through the years that follow: the ravine where birds bring him food, the household of a widow whose jar of flour never empties, and the confrontation on Mount Carmel where two altars are built and only one is set alight. Along the way he takes on a successor, Elisha, and the people who have kept quiet begin to choose a side.

The musical is an original work, with a script by Joseph Sheridan, music by Steve Parsons and lyrics by Ellie Zumbach, the writing team behind the earlier Bible-based musical The Road to Damascus. The score sets scripturally rooted lyrics against full-company harmonies, and the production is built for spectacle, with live animals, haze and fire on stage. It is a familiar story played at full volume, and it ends with the sky finally opening.
