California native Jack Russell is a rock singer and songwriter and founding member of Great White, a hard rock band from the early 1980s. Citing influences such as Robert Plant and Steven Tyler, Russell spent his formative years in front of various high school bands. In 1977 he co-founded the Danté Fox band with guitarist Mark Kendall. In 1981 the band changed their name to Great White and in 1984 the band released their self-titled debut album via EMI. Great White had huge success in 1987 with their third LP, Once Bitten..., which included the hit single "Rock Me", and again in 1989 with Twice Shy, which included their cover by Ian Hunter, Once Bitten Twice Shy. Russell left the band in 1996 to pursue a solo career and released Shelter Me in 1999 via MVP Records. In the same year Russell rejoined the band, but in 2001 Great White dropped out, and performed in a farewell performance on New Years Eve at the Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana, CA. The following year, Russell began performing as Jack Russell's Great White. The team came to international attention in 2003 after a massive pyrotechnic failure at the Rhode Island Station nightclub set fire to the venue's roof, killing 100 onlookers. By 2005, the stress of the trials, the internal turmoil of the band and Russell's substance abuse problems had taken their toll and Jack Russell's Great White went out of business. The original Great White lineup reformed for the tour and released their 10th studio album, Back to the Rhythm, in 2007. Another studio LP, Rising, followed in 2009, but it would be the last release. by Russell with the group. In 2011, after a period of recovery from multiple back surgeries resulting from a fall in 2009, a newly sober Russell resumed under the nickname Jack Russell's Great White. In 2017, the band released their debut studio album, He Saw It Comin ', via Frontiers Records.
