David - The Musical

David tracks a shepherd boy who kills a giant, becomes a king, and then spends the rest of his life discovering that the giant was the easy part. The stage musical takes the biblical account in full — the sling, the crown, the failures — and puts it on stage at unusual scale.

The story moves from the hillside where a youngest son is left to mind the sheep, to a battlefield where an army is waiting for somebody to volunteer, and then into a reign that brings power, betrayal and the consequences of his own worst decisions. The show does not stop at the victory. It stays for the psalms written afterwards, which is where its real interest lies.

It is an original musical, with a score built around contemporary worship writing inspired by the psalms and composed for this production, first performed in 2025. It is staged on a very wide stage with a large ensemble, live animals, and screen work extending the landscape behind the action.

Expect spectacle: battle sequences, a slow-motion confrontation with Goliath, horses and livestock crossing the stage, and a title role that asks for singing, riding and playing. Underneath the scale, the show is about a man who keeps talking to God whether he has just won or has just done something unforgivable.

It suits audiences who want scripture staged as large-scale theatre, families included. It works best live, where the width of the stage and the animals crossing it cannot be reproduced any other way.
